London Calling...for ADR on "Spooks"

We really enjoy doing automated dialog replacement in the Soundscapes recording studios, or ADR as it's known in audio production circles, and a few weeks ago we successfully pulled off our first Trans-Atlantic ADR session.

We were contacted by the producers of the award-winning British spy drama "Spooks", and we worked on two new episodes of the popular BBC program, which also airs in the US on A&E as "MI-5".

While veteran English actor Stuart Wilson was in our studio in Little Rock replacing dialog, we had a frame accurate picture lock with Goldcrest Studios over the pond in London.

The session was a lot of fun, and despite 4,400 miles, the Atlantic Ocean and a 6 hour time difference, it went off without a hitch.

Damned Wikidedia...

I've only seen the 2 episodes I worked on, but it does look like a great show. I can't imagine cutting out 15 minutes though, the stories seem way too complicated for that.

...damned BBC America.

Not to be anal (well, yeah, to be anal), A&E dropped 'MI-5' like a bad penny years ago when it decided to be the low-rent reality show network.

BBC AMERICA shows 'MI-5' now. I'd watch it, but the original episodes are up to 60 minutes long, so they trim 1/4 of each episode to fit the commercials in, making for a frustrating lack of narrative cohesion.

It's a great show, though. If I won the lottery, I'd be able to afford the seasons on DVD.
